Back in July 2015, I visited my home country of Croatia. My parents originated from Bosnia but are of Croatian descent, so I visit Croatia as much as I can to see the country and spend time with my family. Every trip to Croatia is different. During my most recent trip I visited Vodice, Krka National Park, Split, Zadar, and many other smaller cities/towns.
We drove from Bosnia to Croatia - the two countries border each other so the drive isn't too bad. Thankfully, the drive is scenic and the sun was rising on the way there.
I visited Vodice and stayed with family. Vodice borders the Adriatic Sea with a population of about roughly 8,000. Below is a picture of the downtown city center with restaurants and stores all down the port and the ocean to the right.
Next, we made our way towards Šibenik, which is about 20 minutes away from Vodice. We visited the St. Michael Fortress - which is where we saw the lovely view from the picture below. The fortress was constructed in the 10th century (most likely). It has been renovated and partially reconstructed due to the attacks by various conquerors.
In Sibenik, there's a pretty well known beach resort called Solaris. We didn't stay there but we visited and explored the resort and relaxed on the beach. In the centre of the resort, there is a Dalmatian Ethno Village with homemade cheese, original Croatian food, homemade bread, and it includes an ancient 100 year old water mill. SO cool.
Enjoy some pics below.
Next we made our way to Zadar - a city filled with Venetian and Roman ruins - and it includes several Venetian gates in the walls of the city. The church pictured below is The Church of St. Donatus from the 9th century!
After Zadar, we made our way to Krka National Park - this is a must see in Croatia! Pictures of course never do the place justice but they do a pretty decent job
After Krka, we head to Split - the city known for its beautiful beaches and nightlife. Game of Thrones is actually filmed here! It's an absolutely beautiful city and I recommend it as a must when visiting Croatia!
That's all from Croatia for now! Croatia is a beautiful Eastern European country with beautiful coastlines on the Adriatic Sea and more than a thousand islands crossed by the Dinaric Alps and dotted with castles. Croatia is a thrilling and exotic place and I hope you all will get the chance to visit my amazing home country one day. As soon as I go back I will post new blog posts and photos of places you must see in Croatia.
